Carbon reporting

EALS CONSULT is developing a carbon reporting database system for Uganda, in collaboration with See Through Carbon, which is also designed to promote a free, accurate, open, transparent carbon reporting ecosystem globally. Our common goal is to provide businesses and organisations with high-quality, accessible carbon footprint data, as a foundation for both reporting compliance, and developing data-driven strategies on carbon offsetting. EALS’s goal is to enable organisation processes to become more visible, practical and efficient, and facilitate transparent compliance with regulatory requirements related to the Environment and Climate Changes Impacts.

At an International Level, EALS is supporting the implementation of the UN Carbon emission standard regulations and policies, in coordination with global standard SeeThrough Carbon’s (STC) UK-based administration team, and network of international advisors. EALS is onboarding Ugandan SMEs and big businesses across STC’s seven pilot schemes, generating baseline data to support the participants in their compliance and voluntary reporting, and STC’s open database ecosystem to facilitate carbon drawdown everywhere.

EALS CONSULT is also certified as See Through Carbon’s representative in Uganda. Details of our collaboration can be found in our Memorandum of Understanding, published on our website as a demonstration of transparency in action.

We have consolidated our progress by reinventing our work processes, applying ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and AGILE, and similar project management methodologies, to ensure our operational process accord with international standards.

Technology and methodologies

EALS CONSULT uses two major technologies, namely:

  1. Open source technologies
  2. Licensed technologies.

The choice of technology depends on the requirements of the program or clients’ preferences. Object Oriented Programming approach is used with projects that require coding. The development methodology is also determined by the project at hand but the most commonly employed are waterfall and prototyping.

These do not require purchase of licenses:

Methodologies to systems development

Agile methodology to systems development embraces iterations and rapid prototyping including principle project management and environment business development processes. The requirements on the project/Program are approached as a ‘piece meal’ by grouping them into short-term, mid-term and long-term. The project team then agrees on what requirements will be implemented on a weekly basis, also referred to as a SPRINT. At the end of each sprint, the project team meets to show case what has been achieved and give feedback. Therefore, we implement the project through a series of iterations (sprints).

Every sprint involves several SCRUM meetings where the project team works as a unit to reach a common goal through close collaboration of all members and daily face to face communication among all disciplines on the project.

User stories express the desired goals and objective of the project and program. Each user story yield once implemented a contribution to the value of the overall consultancy, irrespective of the order of implementation.
