Data Security
See Through Carbon:
- Complies with Britain’s Data Protection Act (2018) and its EU equivalent the General Data Protection Regulation (2018)
- Operates a cybersecurity policy to protect users’ data against bad actors/hackers
- Only uses your data as specified in our End User Licence Agreement
- Will never monetise your data
- Only stores the data we need to calculate your carbon footprint
Data Breach Risks
As a non-profit ecosystem, See Through Carbon avoids common data breach risks by:
- Collecting no personal information
- Collecting no financial information or bank details
- Making all your carbon-related information publicly accessible
‘Commercially Sensitive’ Information
The only data See Through Carbon collects but does not make public is your:
- Customer list
- Supplier list
- Sales/costs allocation above by revenue
We need this information to:
- Allocate the correct proportion of your carbon footprint to your customers/suppliers
- Improve Scope 3 (upstream/downstream supply chain) accuracy
- Facilitate automated Scope 3 reporting for all participants
- Avoid double-counting
- Protect SMEs from revealing their degree of dependence on their customers/suppliers by being a trusted 3rd-party intermediary
Customers and suppliers can easily deduce such data from their own and public sources, but See Through Carbon:
- Clearly marks ‘commercially sensitive’ information when collecting data
- Takes cybersecurity precautions to protect it from bad actors hacking its database
- Discloses it only to regulatory authorities in the event of an audit and/or with the approval of the user
